LoveEvolution, an Experience of Peace, Love,Unity and Respect. By Kimberly Craige

Every October, San Francisco holds “Love Fest” but this year, perhaps to be more modern, San Francisco held another festival called “LovEvolution”. Traditionally, LoveFest was about free love, protesting the war and having a good time. However, this year it has “revolutionized” and has become more of a rave.

If you love techno (house, trance, dance music, etc.), love to party and understand the meaning of P.L.U.R., LovEvolution was for you. DJs were lined all up and down the streets, causing crowds around each booth. Each DJ played different types of music from house, to trance, to techno (much like a rave).

From the moment I got into the Civic Center district, crowds of people dressed in eccentric outfits were rushing toward city hall, all obviously buzzing with excitement. Already, I was pumped and excited. However, when I finally arrived at the gates where you had to pay a mandatory $10 fee, I felt as if there was a mass amount of disorganization. It was difficult to distinguish where the entrance even was and where one line started. Also, when I finally got through the gates there seemed to be a huge mob of people unaware of what to do next, standing right in front of the exit. However, once out of the unorganized crowd it was totally different story. There were DJs lined up and down the streets with people hanging off of floats dancing and partying. There were even people dancing on top of streetlights and climbing onto electrical poles. It is obvious that LovEvolution encourages people to behave a bit badly; it was definitely not an appropriate parade for young kids. In summary, LovEvolution was an intensely wonderful and exciting day for many people. It was without a doubt the “it” place to be on October 3.
